🥘 Ingredients

Diet Dr Pepper, this adds a specific flavor and sweetness to the barbecue sauce.

Sugar-free brown sugar substitute, this is usually an intense natural sweetener and sugar substitute that has no artificial ingredients, calories, or carbohydrates, one like this.

Garlic powder is derived from dehydrated garlic. I like to use this garlic powder.

Tomato paste is an inexpensive thickener often used to enrich the flavor of dishes.

Coconut aminos are derived from the sap of a coconut plant and is a soy free product that is keto friendly. This is the brand I use.

Hot chili pepper sauce is a hot sauce derived from chili peppers. This is what I use.

Red chili pepper flakes are a spice that comes from dried and crushed red chili peppers and adds extra heat to the sauce.

Butter adds fat and flavor to this barbecue sauce recipe.

🔪 Instructions

  1. In a medium-sized saucepan over medium heat, add the Diet Dr. Pepper, brown sugar substitute, garlic powder, tomato paste, coconut aminos, hot chili pepper sauce, chili pepper flakes, and butter. Stir to combine.
  2. Continue to stir as butter melts and sugar has dissolved.
  3. Cook until sauce begins to boil.
  4. Reduce heat and simmer for 20 minutes.
  5. The cause will thicken once cooled.

🙋 Recipe FAQ's

Does this Dr Pepper Barbecue Sauce recipe fit the keto diet?

This recipe is technically a dirty keto recipe due to the fact that the diet soda is sweetened with an unapproved keto sweetener. If you want to be keto friendly try this brand of diet soda.

Why is my BBQ Sauce not thickening?

The barbecue sauce should be simmered on a low setting until it thickens. As the sauce reduces from the simmering, it should evaporate and thicken naturally. If not, add ½ tablespoon more of tomato paste to aid in thickening the sauce.
