A Seven and Seven or 7 and 7 is a highball co*cktail, a mixed alcoholic drink containing Seagram's Seven Crown, a blended whiskey, and 7 Up, a lemon-lime soft drink. It is typically served with ice.

The 2-1-1 co*cktail Formula

The ratio refers to 2 ounces of spirit, 1 ounce of sweet, and 1 ounce of sour. Here we've provided examples of each element, but keep in mind that this list is by no means exhaustive: Spirits: Aperol, campari, gin, mezcal, rum, tequila, vodka, whiskey, wine, etc.

It still may not be as common as a Gin & Tonic, but the 7&7 has come a long way since the '70s. The ingredients haven't changed, of course, but its popularity has recently jumped thanks to the stagnant price point of Seagram's 7 and a few of the brand's semi-recent marketing pushes.

Ordering Seven and Seven has class connotations. It is a working-class drink favoured by men (never women) who want alcoholic strength without the flavour of undiluted spirits, and would be considered infra dig by consumers of single malts or premium vodkas.

Almost all the classic drinks you know and love, from the Daiquiri to the Gimlet or the Margarita come down to the same basic ratio: 2:1:1. That's two parts spirit, one part sweet, and one part sour, commonly known as the Golden Ratio.

Pretty much all of these popular co*cktails are made up of three core ingredients. The Negroni is gin, plus vermouth rosso, plus Campari, with a garnish of orange peel. A Daiquiri is made up of white rum, syrup, and lime juice. The Whiskey Sour is whiskey, lemon juice and sugar.

French 75 is a co*cktail made from gin, champagne, lemon juice, and sugar. It is also called a 75 co*cktail, or in French simply a Soixante Quinze (Seventy Five).

This co*cktail got its name because it's a powerful drink, and the liquor does make it stronger than a normal glass of wine. At its most potent—with 2 ounces of gin—the French 75's alcohol content is about 19 percent ABV (38 proof).
